This role is subject to -

The Safeguarding and Community Education team sits within Schools QA in the Education department. The team carry out crucial work, both strategically and operationally, to promote the safeguarding, wellbeing and educational achievement of children. The Community Education team works with schools and families to provide advice, training and guidance around Elective Home Education. This team has strategic responsibility for ensuring that home education is suitable and engagement with home educating communities. Any concerns are escalated appropriately both internally and with multi-agency partners.
 
This vacancy is for a role in the Elective Home Education team. The post holder will ideally have an understanding of Elective Home Education and the Local Authority's statutory duty to monitor this and support families.

The post holder will work with families, contacting them to discuss the education provision they have made for their child. This will include use of videocalls, telephone and completing home visits. This role will use available information to understand what suitable education means, including curriculum requirements. The role will mean that the post holder should also understand what we mean by safeguarding so that when they are assessing or reviewing suitable EHE they consider  if there may be any safeguarding risks. including making a referral to children's services. The post holder will be working with families where children are at both primary and secondary age education phases. 

The post holder will need to be someone who is confident in speaking with partners to gain further information to support decisions about suitability for EHE.

All assessments and records are maintained on a central recording system so the role will require the post holder to have competent ICT skills as well as literacy and numeracy skills.

About the Candidate

This role will suit someone who is interested in education and who has an understanding of what home education is as well as the local authority's role in monitoring home education.
 
The candidate will have good interpersonal skills and be able to make people comfortable when discussing education and EHE, whether this means talking sensitively to a parent, a child, or partners such as social care.
 
This person will need to have good time-management skills and be able to produce reports of visits and meetings efficiently.
 
This role will require the candidate to carry out home visits and to input reports into the LA's management information system.
 
The candidate will need to have some awareness of safeguarding, including being able to identify any safeguarding risks and, if necessary, making a referral to children's services.
