About The Role

As part of the Council's Print and Mail team, the Digital Printer role is key to the services ability to deliver on operational priorities and processes that help support Council functions and resident interaction.

The main focus for the team based in Openshaw (East Manchester) is the production and delivery of key transactional documents including Council Tax bills, Planning applications, Elections Letters, Parking Contraventions, School Admission applications, Payroll and HROD forms as well as other ad-hoc requirements.

The team comprises of various teams including mail delivery team (dealing with inbound and some outbound mail), mailing team, data processing and printing, print buying and account management. The service operates to facilitate services to produce and send communications out to residents via the post.
 
The main duties of the Digital Printer are to prepare and produce accurate and complete printed documents and in doing so maintaining their integrity and providing the mailing team with documents ready for mailing envelope insertion.

The role requires a good attention to detail and as well as producing the documents, the role holder is responsible for using all the printing equipment correctly and safely. 

Ensuring all equipment used it maintained fully is key as well as the management of consumables including toner and paper to make sure that where possible the service is always ready and available.

The role of the Digital Printer is to ensure there is a steady and well managed workflow within production. As the mailing team are dependent on the printed documents to fulfil their roles, it is essential that the post holder can work to a schedule and trouble-shoot the equipment when needed to reduce the amount of downtime experienced.
 
The role is to support and 'feed' the rest of production and when needed the Digital Printer will be expected to provide support and assistance to other teams within the service to ensure business continuity and provide additional service resilience.
 
Stock management and the organisation of various paper types and stocks used to produce jobs is also a key role for the post holder. A twice yearly stock take is required for budget forecasting and this will be required to be undertaken outside of core hours.
 
As the role holder will be dealing with data, it is important that they understand the legislation and rules around GDPR and how as a data processor, our service needs to deal with an manage sensitive information.

About the Candidate


 
We are looking for a candidate who has experience or at least some understanding of working within a mail and print production environment.

Candidates need to be comfortable with machine operating and manual handling. Being able to move and lift boxes or paper, envelopes and other print related consumables to fulfil daily tasks is a core requirement.

We are looking for a candidate who is experienced but also someone who can adapt to new ways of working and develop new skills quickly. The service is one of constant change and improvement and so we want someone who can embrace change and always seek to improve on service delivery and their role within that.

Someone who is flexible in their approach and prepared to learn and understand all the areas of the service to enhance their performance and ability to provide additional resource to cover when needed is a must.

We are looking for someone who is confident with using ICT systems for information management and file composition as well as being capable of trouble shooting and finding workaround solutions when things are not fully operational.
Dealing with complex systems and processes in conjunction with machinery can often be area where problems can arise.

Someone with a methodical approach to tasks and solutions who is able to work and think without continued intervention would be a good asset for our team.
